If you're studying nationally recognised training in Australia from 1 January 2015, you will be required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).
What is the USI?
Your USI will help keep your training records and results together in an online account controlled by you.
Each time you enrol to study with a new training organisation, your USI will be used to store your training records and results.
By having a USI you will be able to access your training records and results (or transcript) whenever you need them. For example, for a new employer or when you enrol to study at a new training organisation.
Your USI can be accessed online from your computer, tablet or smart phone and gives you access to your training records and results at your fingertips.
Your USI links to an online account that contains all your training records and results (transcript) that you have completed from 1 January 2015 onwards. Your results from 2015 will be available in your USI account in 2016.
When applying for a job or enrolling in further study, you will often need to provide your training records and results (transcript). One of the main benefits of the USI is the ability to provide students with easy access to their training records and results (transcript) throughout their life.
How to get a USI?
It's free and easy to create your own USI and will only take a few minutes of your time.
While most students will create their own USI, some training organisations will also be able to create your USI for you. ATTA can do this as part of your enrolment process when you begin studying. You can access your USI account online from your computer, tablet or smart phone anytime.
For more information visit the USI website, or download the following USI Fact Sheet.
Australian companies are turning to their existing workforce as the source of much needed skills.
Current economic conditions and the need to do more with less will only serve to increase this trend. Skilling the existing workforce has emerged as a critical priority for Australian industry and Australian governments.
Why skilling the existing workforce is so important now ? There is a strong set of economic and demographic reasons behind the focus on skilling the existing workforce:
The ageing of the population has resulted in the need to retain existing workers;
A large proportion of the existing workforce does not hold post-school qualifications;
The skills required in the modern workforce are rapidly changing and developing; and
The need for a highly skilled and flexible workforce to help ensure that enterprises become and remain competitive in an increasingly competitive global market has been widely recognised.
